Shahrukh Bengali, MD

Dr. Bengali is a fellowship-trained endoscopic spine surgeon with a background in interventional pain management — a combination that lets him bring the long-term relationships of pain medicine together with the procedural precision of minimally invasive surgery. The goal stays the same across both: help patients get back to what pain has interrupted — work, family, staying active — through the least invasive path that gets them there.

His training includes anesthesiology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern and the University of Florida, where he served as chief resident, followed by a multidisciplinary pain medicine fellowship with an interventional spine subspecialty track. He then completed a 12-month fellowship in endoscopic spine surgery at the University of Florida — currently the only fellowship program in the country built specifically around advanced endoscopic spine training for interventional pain physicians. EMISSC was founded to bring that training directly to patients and partner practices across Texas.

Along the way, Dr. Bengali was named Chief Resident and received several resident honors, including the Chair's Award for Best Resident and Outstanding Achievement recognitions in both pain medicine and critical care. He has presented research on awake ambulatory spine surgery and endoscopic technique at national and international meetings, including the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Technique and the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, and co-authored a chapter on arteriovenous malformations in Neurological and Neurosurgical Emergencies (Elsevier). He is board certified in anesthesiology and board eligible in pain medicine.

Outside the OR: basketball, volleyball, skiing, and time with family.
